Good Ground Invited by Duke Law School to Provide Training to Vietnamese Delegation for Public Interest Law Training
August 8, 2024
The team members of Good Ground, as Duke Law School invitees, provided a comprehensive training session for a Vietnamese delegation as part of an ongoing project aimed at enhancing the legal capacities of the Supreme People’s Procuracy (SPP). The broader goal of the project is to support the SPP in developing a deeper understanding of public interest law (PIL) and the appropriate application of civil penalties, with a focus on policies and practices related to its effective implementation.
Nicole Ledesma and Bruce Searby of Good Ground presented a session on the principles of strategic litigation, demonstrating how it can be effectively applied to public interest matters. This included a brief history on strategic litigation successes and examples of strategic litigation’s impact in areas like tax evasion and public corruption. The delegation also received an overview from Good Ground's Laura Barrera of the Global Magnitsky Act, highlighting its significance in holding foreign individuals accountable for human rights abuses and corruption.
The training offered valuable insights into how public interest law professionals collaborate with CSOs, nonprofits, and government agencies, all working toward the protection of public interests. Thanks to Cris Diaz of Duke Law School for the invitation!
